Toshiba Tekbright Digital Picture Frame: Blue LED Touch-Sensitive Buttons Are Retro and Modern, Too!

Posted on Jul 28, 2008 by Jane Goodwin at 12:05 am

I’ve blogged about Toshiba digital picture frames before, but Toshiba has introduced another frame that merits a blogpost of its own: the Toshiba Tekbright digital picture frame.

We are a picture-taking society; few of us go anywhere without a digital camera in tow, but what do we do with all of those wonderful pictures once we’ve put them on our computers in a file or photo-sharing website?  Most of the time, we forget all about them, that’s what.

This won’t happen if you have a digital picture frame!  You’ll be able to see all of your pictures, in rotation in a slideshow, whenever the frame is turned on.  If you’re like me, your frame will be turned on all the time; in fact, I never turn mine off!  If I have to get up in the night, I really like to see my pictures as I walk past my wireless frame to the kitchen.  I think seeing my pictures even influences my dreaming, in a positive way!

The Toshiba Tekbright digital frame has a row of blue LED-light touch-sensitive  buttons across the bottom of the frame, which I think gives the frame a futuristic look that I really like.  You can load your pictures into this frame with almost any memory card or flash drive, directly from your computer with the included USB cable, or by uploading a LOT of pictures into the 64MB of internal memory.  That’s a lot of pictures, folks!

The Toshiba Tekbright digital picture frame not only shows pictures and videos; it also has a clock, calendar, and Mp3 player!  The 7-inch LCD touchscreen display makes configurations easy, and lets you view your pictures and videos clearly even from across the room.

This new Toshiba Tekbright frame isn’t available in the States yet, but keep watching this space!

LGphotoframedvdFrom Smarthouse.com comes the information that LG has introduced a new digital picture frame with a built-in DVD player.

LG’s DP392G has an 8-inch LCD screen. When you display it, there won’t need to be any exposed cords, as the built-in battery will give you approximately 3 - 4 hours of play.

Patricia Cheung, LG Electronics Australia’s Category Manager for Audio Visual and IT says that “The new LG Photo Frame DVD Player’s key characteristic is the synergy of a digital photo frame and portable DVD player in one unit making it an industry first. This product is about making leading technology simple to use and providing a convenient way to view photos and DVDs from the one combined united.”

The LG DP392G has 256 MB of built-in flash memory and a photo editing function. The digital frame is compatible with most memory cards, and will play most DVD’s, video and audio CD’s, Mp3’s, WMA’s, and JPEG files.

The price? $399.00.

I like the look of this new frame.

LCD Prices Going Up?

Posted on Mar 6, 2008 by Emily Logan at 7:00 am

A recent article posted on The New York Times technology blog discussed an interesting trend in the digital frame market–as more competition enters the market, the price of digital frames is rising, not falling. The reason? High consumer demand and the limited availability of LCD panels.

The article goes on to state that digital frames will be “the world’s fastest-growing application for small/medium display” this year. Prices are expected to drop 3.3 percent by the end of the quarter.

The Telechips WiFi Digital Picture Frame Will Have Streaming Internet Radio

Posted on Jan 24, 2008 by Jane Goodwin at 12:05 am

telechipsThis is the new Telechips Wi-Fi-enabled digital photo frame, featuring wireless connectivity using CSR’s UniFi single-chip Wi-Fi technology. According to CSR ’s announcement today, UniFi will provide users with the capability to send their favorite photos directly to an 8-inch LCD display and also to connect via Wi-Fi access points to provide wireless streaming of internet radio. The Telechips frame will be available at the end of this month.

A wireless digital picture frame is nothing new now, but the fact that the Telechips will have wireless streaming internet radio is pretty cool.

The wireless picture frame will support the usual picture programs; I am curious to find out if FrameChannel is one of them. I know that Flickr and Picasa are supported. I’ve used them all and I still much prefer FrameChannel to any other picture program out there.

According to Tracy Hopkins, Vice President of CSR’s Consumer Business United, “It is clear that the market for Wi-Fi enabled devices is growing rapidly and our collaboration with Telechips will enable ODMs to deliver high quality multi-functional devices in minimal time to market.”

Minho Seo, CEO of Telechips, agrees. “Increased functionality remains a key differentiator for many of our customers and wireless connectivity is becoming a must have.”

I agree.
