Putting the Pieces Together

Will we see a wireless picture frame selling for under $150 in 2007? Probably not! But the pieces and prices are coming together to open up the possibility.

With a bit of searching one can find a digital frame for under $100. Albeit the frame size is small at this price level. We found one today at SuperMediaStore (Tricod DPF-LCD56J 5.6 inch LCD Digital Photo Frame, with FREE Philip 6 in 1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader, White (MEY09X0016-001) - Free Ground Shipping) for $88.

Now add a USB Wireless Adapter. They are found in the $60-$70 price range. BestBuy promotes the Neoware USB Wireless network adapter today for under $65.

Add these two pieces ($88 + $65 = $153) and a little software (clearly not as simple as we make it sound) and the $150 price is within reach. Now add economies associated with mass production and we’re headed for the $99 wireless photo frame to be introduced at CES in 2008!
