D-Link ships DIR-685 all in one router

d-linkdir-685-lgWe’ve posted here several times about the new FrameChannel-compatible D-Link DIR -685, and now Slippery Brick informs us that this fantastic product has shipped!

The DIR-685 was first introduced way back in January at CES and now the company has began shipping them. The DIR-685 features a built-in draft N Wi-Fi module that allows it to communicate with network attached storage devices.

But that isn’t all it does. That 3.2 inch LCD screen will play streaming video or you can use it as a digital photo frame. If you like stats, it will display status information in graphs and gauges too. Like weather, but don’t have any windows to look outside? You can program the screen to display weather forecasts and other live internet content. This router does a lot.

The NAS feature supports UPnP server functions and BitTorrent downloads. Pick up the D-Link Xtreme N DIR-685 $300.

D-Link DIR-685 Router: FrameChannel Compatible!

Posted on Jun 30, 2009 by Jane Goodwin at 1:45 pm

Over on one of FrameMedia’s other websites, Information Appliance, Emily has written a great article about the new FrameChannel-compatible D-Link DIR-685 router:

D-Link Xtreme N DIR-685

OhGizmo! just reviewed the new D-Link DIR-685 router. The router has a 3.2″ LCD screen and is FrameChannel compatible!

The router earned a great review for being easy to set up, very fast, good looking, and having lots of integrated options for storage and remote content access.

The author had great things to say about FrameChannel, too:

You can customize the display options for every single thing you want to include, from the time of day that each thing shows up, to the duration that it shows up for, to the priority that it has compared to the rest of your stuff. So for example, you can have traffic and weather and news headlines show up in the morning, followed by RSS feed items in the afternoon, and pics from Flickr in the evening. Generally I find services like this to be bloated and cumbersome, but FrameChannel is refreshingly simple and full featured. You can even set how often your router updates its FrameChannel content, which is a nice touch.

Wireless/Digital Photo Frame Shopping Tips from PC World!

Posted on Jun 6, 2009 by Jane Goodwin at 12:05 am

kodakPC World’s Kathleen Cullen has posted an article about several different wireless/digital picture frames!  Included in her post are her opinions about the Kodak EasyShare W1020 (pictured),  the Sony S-Frame DPF-D80, the Pandigital  PAN 1002W02T, the Transcend PF720,  the D-Link DSM210, and the InTouch IT7150.

The complete article may be found right here on PC World’s website.

Please note: Cullen included the Smartparts SPF8WF in her list, but I can not endorse this brand as they have gone out of business and, according to all the emails I am getting about them,  are not supporting their previous customers.
