The NPD Group Announces "Coming Out Party" For Digital Picture Frames As A Favorite Gift
The NPD Group has recently released data that tells us that the digital picture frame product grossed nearly twelve million dollars for the week ending May 12, 2007. What does this mean? It means that as many people bought digital picture frames for Mother’s Day, as bought them for Christmas presents last December!
The most popular frame seems to be the 7-inch digital picture frame; almost 56 percent of the digital frame market in revenue were 7-inch frames. Perhaps one reason sales were so good is that the average price of a digital frame has dropped considerably, sometimes as much as a hundred dollars. Another reason is that there are many more digital picture frame products on the market now.
Liz Cutting, senior imaging analyst for The NPD Group, says that “digital picture frames really came into their own around the holidays and are now gaining even more momentum as great gifts for Mom. There are so many options now, incorporating video, audio, internal memory, and Wi-Fi capabilities; the possibilities for having pictures come to life are endless. This gives moms the opportunity to showcase a moving montage at work, at home, or on the go.”
My mother, who has no computer nor any computer skills of ANY kind, has a birthday in August. Guess what she’s getting? She won’t need to do anything but turn it on. Her frame will be loaded with pictures when she opens it up.
