Will the iPad Kill the Digital Photo Frame Category?

Posted on Mar 8, 2010 by iPad Reviewer at 1:09 pm

“Will the iPad Kill the Digital Photo Frame Category?” – This was the question asked in a Parks Associates blog entry in late January. Harry Wang’s insightful article suggests that players in today’s photo frame category may have an opportunity to learn from the iPad experience.
Much of the success of the iPad as a photo frame will be dependent upon the availability of stands and cradles which allow for a landscape orientation. The leading providers of iPod docks (Logitech, Bose, Belkin, Altec Lansing) will undoubtedly play in this new large iPad peripherals space. We’ll keep you updated on innovative docks and stands (which help turn the iPad into a picture frame) as they become announced and available.
This blog will look to be the authority on iPad docking stations and stands for selfish reasons. We believe that FrameChannel will be the perfect application to transform the iPad into a photo frame (a perfect information appliance screensaver experience). Stay tuned … and manufacturers of iPad peripherals please send your products our way and we’ll write about them!

iGala Wi-Fi Linux based Photo Frame Reviewed

Posted on Feb 23, 2010 by iPad Reviewer at 6:37 am

Interesting and well-done review of the iGala photo frame on Indulge Blogger this morning.

“Unlike other digital photo frames that just accept memory cards and show photos, the iGala has a brain inside its rectangular head. Use the touchscreen interface to configure the iGala to connect to your wi-fi network, then the iGala can do all kinds of smart things like login to a Gmail account and display any e-mailed photos on its hi-res 800×600 screen.”

Of course, interesting to us is the comparison between FrameChannel and FrameIt.  Again, “our” read of the service comparison … the winner, FrameChannel. “The main difference between the two services is the scope of their image content collections.”
