Many of you are sending your son or daughter off to college this week, and did you ever imagine having so much stuff in YOUR dorm room back in the day? I considered myself lucky to have a window fan, and my daughter is leaving tomorrow with a microwave oven, and little refrigerator, a toaster, a TV, and DVD player, a computer, a stereo system, and a wireless digital picture frame.
Me, personally, I think the wireless picture frame is what she’ll enjoy the most.
Her dorm is wireless, so we got her a Digital Spectrum MF 8104, the same as I have at home. I’ve not had a single problem with it and I can happily and honestly recommend it to all of you, too. I’ll be able to send digital pictures to her with lightning rapidity, and she can send them to me, too. She’s in the process of setting up a FrameChannel account for herself, too; it’s the best content provider out there.
She’s going to subscribe to the local hometown news and her new college news. She was scrolling through the dozens and dozens of FrameChannel RSS channel choices as I left for the grocery store and when I returned, she wasn’t finished checking all of them out yet! She’s going to let FrameChannel handle her Facebook pictures, too.
If you have a child who is leaving home for college, think about geting him/her a wireless digital photo frame. It’s an excellent way to keep in touch.

Wireless/digital picture frames are getting more and more MAGICAL all the time!
I’ve posted before about how Harry Potter isn’t the only one who has a picture frame that seems almost alive by his bed. Not any more. Any one of us can have what Harry has, and we can have a moving picture frame that does even more than Harry Potter’s moving pictures do.
With a wireless digital picture frame and a content provider like FrameChannel, there really are very few limitations as to what you can see in your frame. Photographs, slideshowing one by one or in groups or in any formation you choose. . . videos. . . . movies. . . television programs. . . podcasts. . . streaming internet radio. . . . mp3’s. . . . Harry Potter’s magical picture frame merely showed the same picture over and over again, alive and moving, yes, but just the one picture. YOUR wireless digital picture frame, on the other hand, can make Harry’s picture frame look like still life, because yours can do ever so much more, even if it’s not REALLY magic.
Or is it?
The late Arthur C. Clarke said it best: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

Don’t you think it would be really great if libraries had a wireless/digital picture frame, positioned where people would always see it when they entered the building? New books could be showcased on it, and old books, too, for that matter. Authors and their biographies, movies based on books, pictures of library patrons and children’s reading clubs, pictures of prizes kids could win by reading, prize-winning essays by kids, book reviews, even chapters from books!
All these things, in the library lobby or by the front desk, changing, changing, changing, slideshowing, showcasing all the things the library has to offer, things people didn’t KNOW the library offered!
So very often, people choose a book by its cover, even though we all know we shouldn’t. Why not feature book jackets on the wireless/digital frame? What great publicity for a book! Have the local children make posters about their favorite books, and feature those on the wireless/digital frame, too.
If the library was a wireless hotspot, it could subscribe to all kinds of wonderful channels via FrameChannel! The weather, and Nasa, and National Geographic, all KINDS of National Geographic channels! National, international, and local news. Sports - all kinds of sports - specific teams, sports in general, scores. Horoscopes. Traffic reports and patterns. Famous paintings and other kinds of art. ALL kinds of art. Business. Career tips. “This day in history.” Inspirational quotations. Trivia. Cartoons. Bible quotes. Recipes. Bible quotes. House and home tips. Word of the day. Travel. Calendars. Clocks. Absolutely all kinds of photographs. Cats. Dogs. Horses. Cars. Racing. More. More. More. Etc.
In other words, pretty much everything. You can get all of these channels, and MORE, on your own wireless/digital photo frame at home, too, I hope you know by now! I do. FrameChannel ROCKS!
Personally, I believe that every business/institution/school should have a wireless/digital picture frame right up front where customers and visitors can see it. People look at wireless/digital picture frames, folks. A wise business will have one, fully loaded, in the lobby or waiting room. People WATCH.

I have been to three funerals in the past two years, and all three had a wireless/digital picture frame on display, with a slideshow of some of the highlights of the deceased’s life. Spouse, children, ceremonies, music, voices, etc. were on display for everyone to see and hear.
One of the funerals had a digital picture display that had been prepared by a professional slideshow company to the tune of $150.00 for the making of the brief, 200-picture show. One of the funerals had a slideshow prepared by the funeral home with pictures brought in by the spouse in a shoebox, for a “mere” additional $800.00. The third funeral had a slideshow put together by the deceased’s five grown children; each had contributed several dozen photographs that represented a part of their father’s life, and had solicited pictures from family and friends, also.
I asked one of the sons, who is a personal friend of mine, how long it took to put the slideshow together.
“About four hours,” he replied. “All we had to do was scan the older photographs, make a desktop file with all the pictures, and slide them onto a flash drive. We ended up with enough pictures that our slideshow went through the entire batch about four times in three hours. Plus, now we have Dad’s life on a thumb drive. He’d laugh if he knew that.”
I hope none of you need this information any time soon, but let’s face it: life can hand us some nasty surprises once in a while. If you want a slideshow display of someone’s life, why not use a wireless/digital picture frame and make the slideshow yourself, for free?
There are so many practical uses for a wireless/digital picture frame: weddings, trade shows, nursing homes, schools, businesses. . . . and funerals.
It’s more fun to think of the wireless frame we have in our living room, but these frames are so very much more versatile than merely that.
