Microsoft’s OEM Division Corporate Vice President Steve Guggenheimer was a keynote speaker at Computex 2009 this past summer, and among other things, he revealed that Windows 7 would become generally available in October 2009, and Windows Server 2008 R2 will be broadly available at the same time. Included in this would be the Fugoo platform:

Another bid to create a useful class of consumer devices is Fugoo. The Fugoo platform uses a version of Windows in conjunction with widely available Web “widgets,” which publish everything from the time and weather to currency exchange rates and horoscopes.

Fugoo’s prototype devices integrate that software functionality into home appliances to create dynamic displays in clocks, picture frames and even coffee makers.

At Computex, Fugoo is announcing that its first commercially available product, a digital picture frame launched in partnership with Pandigital in the U.S., will be available on the market this summer.

The frame is Web-enabled and can download photos from social networks or online photo services. It also allows users to download photos directly from a PC or digital camera.

The full article may be read on Microsoft’s webpage. It’s from last June, but the article’s “predictions” came to pass just the other day!

Mimo’s iMo Foto Frame Printer

Posted on Oct 27, 2009 by Jane Goodwin at 12:05 am

Look what’s on Endgadget!

imo-printer-mimoMimo’s made quite the name for itself with its delightful array of USB-powered secondary monitors, but now it seems the company is spreading its proverbial wings and introducing something strikingly out of character. The iMo Foto Frame Printer most certainly isn’t the first (or second) of its kind, but it just might be the cutest. The digiframe / printer hybrid boasts an 8-inch panel, a memory card slot, bundled remote and an inbuilt photo printer that shoots out 4- x 6-inch images with a 300 x 300dpi print resolution. $229.99 gets you the unit itself, a few cables and a paper cartridge for 36 prints — after that, you’re on your own. Godspeed, young one.

73706187Greg Tarr of TWICE has the scoop on the new Sony digital picture frame/printer combo:

Sony Electronics is launching Thursday a multitasking digital photo frame and printer combination.

The S-Frame DPP-F700 is an all-in-one device that allows photo lovers to display their favorite photos and make an instant print copy for interested friends and family.

The DPP-F700, which will ship in January at a $200 estimated selling price, has a 7-inch 16:10 LCD display with WVGA (800-by-480) resolution.

The device prints 4-by-6 inch professional quality 300-by-300 dpi photos instantly in just 45 seconds.

The frame will also enable users to edit images before making prints. Editing options include enlarging, reducing, cropping, date stamping, adding borders or omitting, and adjusting brightness, contrast, hue, and sharpness.

A Creative Print mode will enable making photo calendar using more than 30 templates, print an ID photo, and create a “layout print” with multiple images on one sheet.

The S-frame includes 1GB of internal storage capacity with an auto-resizing adjustment that downsizes photos to let you store up to 2,000 photos.

The new S-Frame model supports JPEG, TIFF and BMP image file formats.

Images can be transferred to the frame via a USB connection or via most Flash memory cards, including Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo, Secure Digital (SD), SDHC, Multi-Media Card (MMC), CompactFlash and xD-Picture Card media.

An Auto Orientation sensor automatically rotates photos to adjust for horizontal of vertical frame placement.

Supplied accessories include a paper tray, AC adaptor, CD-ROM (print driver, PMB), operation manual, cleaning kit and stand.

Optional print packs include compatible SVM-F series: SVM-F40P (40 sheets of photo paper and cartridge), and SVM-F120P (120 sheets of photo paper and cartridges).
