Wireless: A Must-Have Feature For A Digital Picture Frame!

Posted on Dec 3, 2008 by Jane Goodwin at 12:05 am

Photo News Today’s Dennis Hayes writes that “The digital photo frame market is projected to achieve a compound annual growth rate of nearly 22% from 2008-2013, surpassing 21 million units.

InfoTrends’ research indicates that vendors seeking to gain share in this growing market should focus on introducing products that foster ease of use to enable consumers to display their latest and greatest photos as effortlessly as possible. First and foremost, wireless is a must-have feature moving forward for this market to reach its full potential. Just over 15% of all digital photo frames shipped are wireless at this time, but this percentage is expected to jump to almost 35% by 2012.

Regular readers of this blog already know my opinion of WiFi-compatible frames!

Most of the major manufacturers of digital picture frames - Kodak, Samsung, Phillips, Edge, D-Link, Momento, PhotoVu, and Digital Spectrum, for example -  have at least one wireless digital frame, and while it is still true that a certain non-tech segment of the population will always want a wired frame, those of us “in the know,” as it were, understand and appreciate the fantastic universe that opens before us when we let FrameChannel, the best content provider of all, put a slideshow of memories on that LCD screen.  The wireless afficionados also love the RSS feeds that a wireless connection and a good content provider can give us: a wireless digital picture frame can display much more than photographs and videos!
