Quanta Microsystems, Inc.’s Wireless Frame is FrameChannel Enabled

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Quanta Microsystems Inc. (QMI) to learn more about their plans in the wireless picture frame market. Founded in February 2006, QMI is a subsidiary of Quanta Computer, the world’s largest laptop OEM/ODM in Taiwan. QMI’s WiFi modules are already embedded in laptops, digital home devices (including WiFi digital photo frames), digital media adapters (DMA), IP set-top boxes, and WiFi routers.

QMI’s WiFi Digital Photo frame features an easy-to-operate connection in a wireless environment. Functionality includes; remote operation via personal computer, a user-friendly graphic interface, built-in speakers, remote control, alarm clock, and calendar. QMI currently offers an 8-inch model with a 4:3 aspect ratio and sharp LCD display. A 10-inch model will be available in the near future.

QMI’s WiFi digital photo frames are FrameChannel enabled, allowing them to function in concert with the FrameChannel service; updating RSS feeds dynamically in the background. The frame will clean out old images and reach out for new ones following the rules specified in the FrameChannel RSS feed, as well as honor specified order and time to live.

In addition to WiFi Digital Photo Frames, current QMI products include:

  • WiFi 11 a/b/g, 11n, mini card / USB dongle & cardbus
  • 11b/g and 11n SiP module
  • 16e WiMAX CPE series
  • UWB series
  • High Definition IP-STB and Digital Media Adaptor
  • Wireless router

I’m not sure wireless digital photo frames are the way forward. They will only work in certain locations and people will just struggle to operate them. I tried a complicated digital photo frame with all the gizmos for my grandma and she could not get her head round it, then i went to http://www.digitalframesdirect.com and bought one there, she simply turned it on, put in her memory card, and away she went. Simple, and great quality, the picture was crystal clear
