Wireless picture frames from Sony, Samsung, Philips, Apple, Dell, HP???

Given the estimate by Park’s Associate that “Annual Shipments of Digital Photo Frames Will Exceed 12 Million in 2010″ it is only a matter of time before the major consumer electronics brands start accelerating their development in this market. In order to be successful, brands like Sony, Samsung and Philips will not only have to compete on price but also on features and there is a limit to the features you can offer on a digital picture frame that is not connected to the network. A wireless picture frame opens the doors for many new content streams and thus new revenue streams and so it is only a matter of time before we see more and more these wireless frames hitting the market and not long before we see the entrance of large consumer brands into the space.

But who will get the market share? Will there be a standout in this market as Apple has achieved with its iPod or will there be several companies who grab market share in what could approach a billion dollar market in 2007. Will a closed network approach work like Kodak appears to be focused on with its EasyShare Wireless Picture Frame or will the companies that embrace open standards like RSS take the lead? Given the importance of digital photography to companies like Sony, Apple, HP and Dell it is only natural to expect wireless picture frames from these major brands. We’d welcome your predictions on whether you think it will be the Apple wireless frame connected to iPhoto or the Sony Wireless picture frame that can access content from Sony’s Media properties or perhaps it will be HP that will come in with a SnapFish enabled wireless digital picture frame. We are hopeful that open standards will prevail and believe that the companies who embrace an open platform for photo sharing that can accept images from many sources combined with the company that can deliver a plug and play wireless frame for under $200 will take an early lead. Who will it be?

Who do you think will hit the market first with a wireless picture frame for under $200 USD?

1) Apple Wireless Digital Picture Frame
2) Sony Wireless Digital Picture Frame
3) Samsung Wireless Digital Picture Frame
4) Philips Wireless Digital Picture Frame
5) HP Wireless Digital Picture Frame
6) Dell Wireless Digital Picture Frame
