A Merry Christmas for Digital Picture Frames
A Very Merry Christmas for the Digital Photo Frame Industry
By all indications the last quarter of 2006 was a home run for the digital frame industry. In speaking to manufactures on the floor of the Consumer Electronics show last week in Las Vegas, it was clear that the Christmas demand for digital frames far exceeded expectations. Although many pointed out that demand was still driven by gift givers to the grandparent sector, industry enthusiasm related to the emergence of the digital picture frame as a household consumer electronics “got to have” device was widespread.
This week, the “sold out” sign was prevalent on retail and manufacturer web sites for many of the most popular digital frames.

- Pacific Digital MF-108 Memory Frame
- Royal PF80 8-Inch Digital Frame
- Westinghouse 5.6” LCD Digital Photo Frame
- Pacific Digital MV-800 Digital Photo Frame
It also appeared to be a strong quarter for those with a wireless frame product offering.
On the Ceiva site:
“We are currently back ordered for CEIVA 7-inch Digital Photo Frames and CEIVA 8-inch Digital Photo Frames due to popularity of the products. We are currently shipping within 14-18 business days.”
On the eStarling site (reseller ThinkGeek.com):
“Out of Stock”
But there is good news if you need one in hurry. Try the PhotoVu site:
“Since each PhotoVu is build-to-order, your transaction is processed immediately using the Payment Information on the Check Out page. Unless you select an upgraded Service Option, the average time between placing your order and shipment is approximately 7-10 business days.”
If the number of booths at CES promoting digital picture frames is an indication, 2007 promises to be a banner year for this emerging technology category. According to an article dated January 9, 2007 in Canada’s National Post, more than 10 million digital photo frames will be sold this year.
